About the Couch Potatoes: Hawk
About the Couch Potatoes: Michael

I’m your typical teenage American geek. I’m inactive, listen to anything from Heart to Sum 41, and dual-boot. I’m a supporter of the Open Source Initiative, though I don’t believe in using hardcore Unix-like operating systems for every day browsing of the internet. Let’s put it this way; in a perfect world, you would only open a terminal when you were having problems.
Moving away from my would-be-rant, I also believe in being politically aware before you turn 18, and value informed, logical opinions. That opposed to mimicking the opinions of your parents, or people on telivision… I would refer to myself as an unofficial democrat, but disagree with the entire concept of the two party system. That being said, I could do without some common left wing practices, like overly extensive gun control, but generally speaking I consider myself Democratic. If you would enjoy a more detailed explanation of why, read the blog instead of taking a shortcut to the “About the Authors” page.
Aside from politics and Linux, I’m a bit of a gamer. I dabble in card games, like Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic the Gathering. I’ve played Dungeons and Dragons, be it only once or twice, among other tabletop games. I also play a lot of video games, preferring the Xbox 360 to other “next-gen” consoles, but occasionally, and when the chance arises, enjoying the Wii. Despite my obsession with Halo 3, I’ve nothing against the NES and the SNES, or Super Mario RPG. I’m less a fan, but fan nonetheless, of handheld gaming systems. I’ve beaten one of each generation of Nintendo’s Pokemon series for the Game Boy and the DS, and not ashamed to openly post this information on the internet.
Like I said, I dual-boot. Although I run both Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and Windows Vista Home Premium, I mostly use Vista. I prefer compatability to style or a boost in speed. The internal wireless card in my Toshiba laptop is incompatible with Ndiswrapper, and until that changes, I’ll only be booting from the Ubuntu partition to waste time finding cool new open source applications, or to diagnose a suspected software or hardware problem. I delight in making Vista more customizable, and then customizing it. Microsoft, despite majorly improving most aspects of their operating system since Windows XP, did include some annoying or impractical features in Vista. I take pride in removing or patching these through the registry or using other means.
The above listed among others are my interests, and what I thought appropriate to post as a small “About the Author”, since now the reader knows what I will be blogging about. I apologize if I bored you with some repetition at times in this article, but if I did, you now know to read Hawk’s posts instead of mine. Although I may be quite opinionated, I encourage you to argue my opinion if you don’t share it. In general, I blog for myself, not the reader, but I’m more than glad to see more people becoming interested in blogging. I hope you enjoy reading my articles, rants, etc.!
